Job Description

The Director Learning and Development is responsible for providing appropriate training and development for all employees to support the execution of business strategy, to support career mobility channels for all employees and to ensure employees have required skills and competencies to meet business goals.

They will direct and develop an expert team to design and develop curriculum, expertly facilitate the delivery of curriculum, measure and report learning performance, build a robust knowledge management system and continuously assess business training and development needs. Training and development includes on-boarding, functional training including sales, soft skills, and leadership development.

The Director Learning and Development works collaboratively with business and HR leaders, to assess current programs, identify opportunities, and maintain robust programs to meet business needs.

 

What you will do here:

  • Provide thought leadership, diagnostic and consulting support on learning and performance related issues to the business.
  • Strategically collaborate with business leaders and HR leaders to develop and execute both long-term and short-term learning solutions that directly support and enable business objectives. Assess current programs, identify opportunities, identify gaps in employee desired performance and define solutions that can close these gaps,
  • Ensure availability of development programs to enable employees to develop, apply and retain identified skills to build robust talent pipelines for all strategic positions.
  • Conduct annual reviews of delivered programs with Business leaders to assess. Monitor and report all program completion and class attendance trends.
  • Provides coaching support to senior leaders including delivery of personal assessment feedback.
  • Provide expert support for needs assessments and project scoping including guidance on calculation of project task timeframes and budgets.
  • Direct expert design and development of appropriately identified instructor led, virtual instructor led, self-study, e-learning or hybrid learning programs. Ensure partnership with the business for sign off at each stage to ensure alignment to needs and appropriate change management.
  • Monitor development project to meet timeline and budget requirements.
  • Develop programs and assets to support the ongoing learning and retention of skills.
  • Continuously evaluate all programs leveraging Kirkpatrick’s model to ensure organization needs are met effectively and efficiently to help maintain the company’s objectives and competitive position.
  • Direct the instructor certification processes to ensure quality and delivery needs can be met for all programs.
  • Direct the instructor evaluation system to ensure the effectiveness and professionalism of all facilitators; ad-hoc staff and contractors.
  • Direct the allocation and utilization of all facilitators.
  • Drive the selection of new curriculum products. Leveraging expertise to support buy versus build decisions.
  • Direct personnel actions including recruiting, new hire actions, interviewing and selection of new staff, staff reviews and salary determinations.
  • Direct the operation of benchmark studies, monitor trends in the market and oversee the research and development of new, innovative technologies that enhance the design, development and delivery of employee development, change management and org effectiveness.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with business vendors who supply programs and courses and other content that meet business needs and support employee development
  • Direct the operation of all systems as they pertain to the management and reporting of learning data to ensure the validity of transcripts and business reports to meet all business and regulatory needs.
  • Manage budgets effectively to ensure all goals are met on an annual basis.
  • Create an environment that welcomes and encourages continuous learning and improvement.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Learning and Development, Instructional Design, Adult Education, Organizational Development or related field required.
  • Master's degree in Leaning and Development, Learning and Instructional Technology, Organizational Development, Adult Education, or related field preferred.
  • 7 years progressive experience in Learning and Development or Talent Management. Experience in multiple business/industry environments preferred required.
  • 5 years of instructional design experience required.
  • 7 years experience leading in a learning and development team required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in program management, business consulting, performance consulting, and executive development required.
  • Expert in adult learning theory required.
  • Expert facilitator to professionally and effectively deliver workshop and training presentations to small and large groups required.
  • Expert in program design, development and evaluation required.
  • Expertise in analyzing and reporting on training program ROI required.
  • Expert needs assessment skills required.
  • Strong business acumen required.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a strategic thinker able to understand broad corporate strategies and create linkage to deployed development and training required.
  • Excellent communication skills and have demonstrated diplomacy with all levels of staff and leadership required.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem solving skills required.
  • Highly analytical required.
  • Curious life-long learner required.
  • Certified Professional in Learning and Development preferred.
